Increase the efficiency of the law enforcement profession and thus more firmly establish the confidence of the public in the service dedicated to the protection of life and property.

Reasons for Joining

The Fraternal Order of Police was founded in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on November 12, 1915 to provide a voice for ALL Law Enforcement Officers of ALL ranks. Commodore Lodge #3 was Chartered on July 21, 1953 to ensure that our voice is heard in the City of Norfolk. Although Police Officers make up the majority of our membership, we also have members from the Commonwealth’s Attorneys Office, the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office and various other State, Federal and Local Law Enforcement agencies. All full time (or retired) regularly sworn Law Enforcement Officers are eligible for membership, subject to the local lodge bylaws. At the State and National level, the FOP actively lobbies the General Assembly, Congress and Senate for the passage of legislation that will benefit the entire Law Enforcement community. The FOP works year round on its lobbying efforts. At the local level, the FOP communicates with City Council members on matters of importance to our membership, including pay, benefits and working conditions.
